How To Measure Your Bra Size

A well written about and googled topic - 'How to find out what your bra size is'.

I couldn't find out exactly how many times this phrase has been googled however the country that searched this topic most was Pakistan! United Kingdom came in 4th behind India, Australia was 6th followed by New Zealand (7th) and United States (8th).

Now, coming from a Fashion Degree and starting Her Apparel out of my home, I made sure our size chart is very accurate to the fit of our lingerie, we have standards and want our customers to have their expectation exceeded once they have received their lingerie because hey! it must be up there with most difficult things to buy online because of sizing!

If you want you can head over to our size chart right now and see my little cute diagram and instructions on how to measure yourself, then you can check your measurements against our sizes to work out what cup, bodice or underwear size will fit you best..... but wait what if you don't know if you are a 10C or a 12B like your ready to wear? (RTW is your store brought, big company brands) what size do you go for?

Please, Please choose based on the measurements you have taken, cup size can be played with slightly, if you want to have less full coverage over your bust and have the Bralette more skimpy - go ahead size down you will be good.

However, I know you cheat on me, you might have one Her Apparel Bralette amongst your drawer of underwire bras - it's okay i understand the safety net and need on occasion for an underwire, and if your drawer is only Her Apparel, thank you so much for your support I live for you and am so proud you must be so comfortable each day!
But lets go back to the cheating part... how do you find out your bra size for a RTW bra?

Now i want you to completely disregard my size chart - i know!

I stumbled across this gem of advice in the bra making community while doing my research to bring you comfortable underwire bras in 2017 (if you are going to wear underwires, i'd rather you know they are going to be comfortable)

First - Measure your bust

  • Take the tape measure around you and across your nipples, make sure the tape measure is sitting horizontal around you and is not too tight and not loose
Second- Measure your high bust
  • Take the tape measure around you once again but this time you are measuring over the bust but underneath your armpit

That's the secret!

RTW 'Bra Fittings' measure your bust and then your rib cage to determine bra band and cup size, this never worked for me and im sure most of you can agree!
The problem with measuring the rib cage for bra's is that the measurement can change from simply breathing in and out, weight gain or loss, menstrual cycles and exercise (our Bralettes are stretch lace so we avoid this).
So how do you find out your bra size with these measurements?

  • Round up or down the high bust measurement to the nearest even number. For example a 32" measurement is a 32" bra band but a 35.5" measurement is a 36" band.
  • Subtract the high bust measurement from your bust measurement.
  • 1" difference = A cup, 2" = B cup, 3" = C cup and so on ( 1" = 2.54 cm)

Don't be completely taken aback if your end bra size is completely different to what you thought it was - next time you walk past a store pop in, try your 'new' bra size and let me know how you get on!

Your Welcome..
